Structures and Shapes _ Interview with Ontal

You seem to work very well together! You played together as Ontal at Exit Festival this year, how did you find that experience?

Darko: For me this is the first time that I performed on Exit Festival and it was a pleasure for me to play with Sigha & Jimmy Edgar. But it was especially interesting because our sound is much different than the rest of the headliners who performed that night.

Boris: Yeah, it was odd to be a part of the Hotflush recordings night with a sound that’s “just a bit” heavier. That was also our second performance ever as Ontal. The first one was a part of the Failed Rituals event in Naherholung Sternchen, Berlin.

Ahaha, just a tad heavier! That video of your performance is great to watch. What did you both think of Berlin?

Boris: Thanks. Berlin was great, inspiring and we’re looking forward for the opportunity to play there again.

Yeah Berlin is a brilliant city. Hope you can get more gigs there soon. So you are both playing at Foundation Sonore 02/02/2013 alongside Ancient Methods, you must be really looking forward to that!

Darko: Yes, we’re definitely looking forward to that. We’re going to do a 1 hour live and 1 hour DJ set.

Boris: We’re also very honoured to play with Ancient Methods. We can’t wait to see the people’s reaction to our new stuff…which we’ll have even more of by then. The venue is also very interesting. A few of my favourite artists from Factory records performed there over 20 years ago.

Sounds like it’s gearing up to be rockin! I’ve seen Ancient Methods play twice now and they never disappoint, that’s for sure! What does the term ‘underground’ mean to you?

Boris: “Hardcore! No sell out!” hahaha. Well, if you want to be a copy of a copy and be dishonest, underground’s not the option for you. That’s how I would put it.

So, more or less, just do your own thing!

Boris: Exactly.

Hi I’m Rachael and I love exploring different thought processes and ranges of emotion through the medium of music. Music has caused me to find people of similar mindsets and build beautiful friendships. There is nothing more enjoyable than dancing and feeling the frequencies flow through your body while getting lost in a cacophony of sound, which drenches the senses so soothingly. I also really enjoy reading, ranting and researching. https://www.facebook.com/Rachbehere http://soundcloud.com/rachbehere
