Militant _ Interview with REALMZ

Money – haha – That seems even more relevant now, with the recent visit by Superstorm Sandy. Did Pittsburgh get any of it?

Sandy didn’t have much of an impact here, just a few days of normal rain and a lot of wet leaves on the ground but I have friends in New York that were effected pretty heavily… going without electricity for almost a week.

Well – back to the music Mate. Left to my devices got a great reaction from everyone. That must have been brilliant –  What do your friends and family think of what you do? Any new releases or remixes coming up?

Some of my friends also make music or have some other form of creative outlet so they’re supportive. On the other hand I tend to work in secrecy a lot of the time. I’m just away in the studio devising new creations.  I hope to have some material ready to put out fairly soon, but no remixes at the moment, no.

That’s one of the reasons why the Realmz name.. and the game of the same name resonated with me. It’s perfect for the sort of double life people have with music and “reality” sometimes haha. I think it’s hard to share with people exactly what you do sometimes, especially now with the internet.. as it can be sort of private..

Hmmm it’s hard to say really, I’ve met some great people through networking online but I’m still not very good at turning my focus to the promotional aspect of music.  I’m much more at home away from the rest of the world devising and concocting things in the lab.  At the same time I like to get out of my comfort zone sometimes so getting out there more and promoting myself, playing out etc. is a part of that.

Music production and history are my biggest passions in life. Though people often say that Techno is faceless and should be about the music blah, blah, blah.. I believe in the need to document the people and stories behind it. Techno is a very small world in reality and I think it needs a proper resource. I hope that everyone who is interested in Techno finds this blog accessible in terms of the way that it is written. I personally prefer to hear the artists voice as loud as the music and never enjoy synopsised and pasteurised versions of old conversation; the sort that's peppered with the occasional quote here and there.

I enjoyed that too, and I also like to hear about the people behind the beats, techno has always had faces to associate with it since the early days, and it is such a small international community, sur why not!

[…] Realmz. Really like all of these, which remind me of some of the tracks that he played in his subsekt mix. Its Techno / Industrial.. but more of an original, less distorted vibe. Tense music. Trigger is […]
