Death Abyss _ Destroy The Mundane [Rodz – Konez]
Unbelievably heavy grooves saturate another release from the mythic leviathan that is Death Abyss.
It’s great to hear some new DA stuff after the remix project that happened in August. I really enjoyed the album – so I was really hoping it was not going to be a one-off. The remixes helped to fill in the time somewhat.. but could not have prepared anyone for the sheer power of this EP.
Destroy the Mundane is a pure hype track. With a hypnotic percussion riff and plenty of industrial crunch, its kick drums are the perfect place to get sucked into. Immense track.
Later, the hammer snare on Fill your Heart with Hate comes straight out of a ironmonger’s workshop. The groove here, though mechanical, is sat on top of a classic broken beat kick pattern – which helps to even out the funk.
If I had this EP on vinyl, I’d be on my millionth needle by now and the record would be worn out from listening to Morality Is a Handicap. Once that sluggy, doomy pace gets into your head, it opens up into a complex and sustained rhythmical assault. The reason why DA is consistently exciting is because he combines the most vital aspects of industrial Techno, bass music and dubstep and forges something perfectly aggressive and intelligent in the process. If this music could be embodied in a weapon, I’m in no doubt that it would be a smart bomb.
I love all these tunes.
