Ronny Pries _ Breaking Bad EP [_rf045]
After a 4 year hiatus, rohformat – the original Techno Netlabel is back with 4 badass Detroit / Industrial Techno tracks. Also includes a Mattias Fridell RMX. Fully recommended.
Ronny Pries – DJ, producer, software developer and graphic designer has been around for a long time under many different names / monikers, but has finally reactivated rohformat (the first Techno netlabel, founded in 1996), in order to release an energetic EP of heads down Techno.
Stripped down Part I is a slow burner; in a similar vein to some of those early Regis synth tracks. We really get going when the noise appears and the FM synth opens up.
Part II is my favourite of the release. Pure dirt. 5mins of absolute no-nonsense 4/4 with a little bit of broken beat. Once more, the synth work here is highly addictive.
Pries shifts the gear back on Part III, focusing on deeper and hypnotic territories. The result is a skilled drum track that strikes a fine balance between tension and release. Mattias Fridell later joins in on the remix, concentrating the deepness further and injecting some classy rolling drive. It’s a great addition to the EP & definitely strengthens an already effective collection of tracks.
This EP has that great classic sound, but has the distinct advantage of being right up to date with some well refined modern production power.
The originals are unreservedly weighty and demand to be played LOUD!!!
