Ross Alexander _ Chasm EP [TMMR079]

RA’s latest release is on Vegim’s Label – TMMR. It’s undoubtedly his best to date.

Ross is a firm believer in “quality, not quantity” and it’s an approach that works spectacularly well on this EP. Other producers would do well to take a leaf out of his book, as this one takes NO prisoners.

Title track Chasm is a creeping leviathan. The sound on top of the bass is pure filth.. and creates a wicked sense of tension right from the opening beat. Ross adds to this synthetic clanging, delays and ride cymbals, building the track into a juggernaut groove.

Plucky is a deeper affair.. a drum track, full of driving percussion and complimented by bouncy bassline. It’s got some sweet variations, especially the “pitching” delay sounds.. with cool lines rising in & out. Really cool.

Burnbank groove lays the foundations for one of the best “what the fuck” sounds from this release, a real head turning, falling pitching sound. The rolling groove lays the foundation for the development of panning “hi sounds”, claps and a rising FM bass. Love this.

Bitstream. What can I say? It’s utter chaos. Great track. Starts 4/4.. then changes into a slightly broken beat flavour.. and develops into a falling apart slab of heavy techno. This track is driving as fuck. When the rides come in, it’s an absolute destroyer. It’s all over the place and tight as fuck at the same time. Unreal track and a superb finish to a really strong release.
