REALMZ _ Left To My Devices [SG1255]
REALMZ’ fresh perspective on our industrial past has resulted in this, his lastest release on Sonic Groove. Thoughtful and consistantly aggressive, the quality of this Techno is unreal.
Left To My Devices contains 4 great tracks. Din Ringer is a real builder, with one of the best drones that I’ve ever heard: a kind of fucked-up, hollow saw sound, which changes pitch slightly as the tune develops. This reminds me of some of the jarring 10″ records that Pounding Grooves used to put out years ago (which I still admire), except REALMZ does it with 100 times more focus & power. It’s an awesome sound.
Chamber 2 is a pure drum track. Broken beats are punctuated by noises that float and jack around the start of every bar. The atmosphere here may be complex, but you haven’t heard intense until you get to Re-Work – which surely captures REALMZ at his most relentless. It’s an utter destroyer of a track.. with those infectious filtered stabs pushing and driving incessantly throughout. The result is 5minutes and 7seconds of some of the most incredibly tough music you’ve heard.
Then things get deeper to finish with the sublime Slipping Into A Dream..
It’s very easy to fall in love with this kind of hypnotic Techno.. The sort that has a simple and amazing synth riff with beautiful & errie sounds jumping all around it. I think it gives a taste of a more mature side to REALMZ’ production and composition skills and is one that I would like to hear more of in future releases.
Great music.
Out Now.
