The First Criteria _ Interview With Reaktivate Records / RKT

RKT _ Ivo

Grand, we should probably talk about the mix around now then. I figured that you would do a great one considering the amount of music that you’ve amassed so far and that it’d be very interesting to hear what you picked out to share. Who mixed it and what can you tell us about the tracks? Looking at the tracklist, you’ve really gone all out for it.

Nuno: I did the mix because Gustavo thinks people like me more than they like him. He was on his period that day, or something. It´s simple really, I tried to combine some of my favs from our back  catalogue, some stuff from upcoming releases, and some tunes from our own staff´s musical projects. I may have sacrificed a bit of consistency in the mix but it was important for us to show that there´s many aspects to what we do and we put out, and that we will never allow ourselves to stagnate.

Gustavo: Well, I wasn’t ahah, but it’s true, people love more Nuno! I will keep doing my djsets for the radioshow and podcasts people request. Well at least in Portugal people like Nuno more than me! For us it’s important being known in Portugal as well as the rest of the World. He keep a very patriotic vein to this project even if people don’t support us locally as much as we want.

Yeah, I noticed that theres a lot of new stuff on this mix, so what coming out over the next few months then? Have you got your sights set on any producers that you would like to work with in the future?

Nuno: We pretty much have our digital release schedule done and dusted until February or March 2014. We´re pretty excited about it. There´s some important names on there that might surprise people, combined with our constant focus on discovering or providing a good platform for new or less well known names. I´d rather keep the biggest names under wraps, but right now we are releasing Refracted´s EP, he´s one of my fav artists of the last 12 months. We have the debut from a really talented young girl from Poland, Milena Kriegs, who makes some beautifully sinister techno. I think she only released a remix until now, and further ahead the debut by a deep-techno producer called Guillam that sounds like a faster Voices From The Lake. And a scoop for you, we´re finalizing the release of the 1st album on our label, by a guy called Perial who sent us a demo for a whole album of tunes and we liked it so much, we are gonna do a limited edition CDr which we will be selling on our Bandcamp. It´s not really very dancefloor material, but it´s a great collection of abstract/ambient/industrial tunes. And of course, vinyl number two is in the works and it will be a collab between Quantic Spectroscopy and this amazing industrial/noise duo from Porto, called Sturqen. Again, we are not exactly aiming for the dancefloor with this one, but there will be a couple of remixes by names which will blow people away, especially industrial techno fans, when they discover who it is.

Gustavo: Oh and T-shirts man! We are going to sell T-Shirts ahah!

T-Shirts with Pedro’s face on Spiderman’s body? I’d buy that haha

Music production and history are my biggest passions in life. Though people often say that Techno is faceless and should be about the music blah, blah, blah.. I believe in the need to document the people and stories behind it. Techno is a very small world in reality and I think it needs a proper resource. I hope that everyone who is interested in Techno finds this blog accessible in terms of the way that it is written. I personally prefer to hear the artists voice as loud as the music and never enjoy synopsised and pasteurised versions of old conversation; the sort that's peppered with the occasional quote here and there.
