Searching _ Interview with Sawf

Haha, the internet can be a weird and wonderful place. I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed your Electric Deluxe podcast, amazing selection of tracks and really well mixed. Were these the kind of tracks that really inspired you to want to make music?

Almost every track from that podcast was ripped from my CD collection that I was keeping in boxes. Found a lot of stuff that I can still use today.

Great stuff. I had never heard of Techno Animal before listening to that podcast, so thanks for that!

Techno Animal was a group that was very influential. Everything that Kevin touched was awesome; that mix between hip-hop and industrial was something I never heard before.

I hadn’t either and that’s why I went on to check out a lot more of their music after that. What does the term ‘Industrial’ mean to you?

Everything from rhythmic noise to power electronics and abstract stuff grabbed my attention mostly before I got into techno, between a million other things as a teenager.

Yeah, was much more into the Industrial and alternative metal side of things before techno also, what bands were/are your favourite?

The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy, Nine Inch Nails, Atari Teenage Riot caught my attention as a kid, then turned into stuff like Sonar and various Ant Zen artists later on. Well ”metal” was in the menu as most of my friends were into guitar stuff, so I embraced some of that. I preferred the bands that had some electronic influences in their sound to be honest; old school metal etc. was not my thing.

Yeah, The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers and NIN for definite, then I sort of worked backwards. What was your favourite NIN album? Ant Zen is a great label, really loving 100blumen that release on the label also.

I really loved the remix EPs that came out after every Nine Inch Nails album. Fixed and Broken EPs really surprised me back then and the Further Down the Spiral album.

Could you tell me first track that comes to mind? From either EP or FDTS for that matter.

A nice remix form J.G., Thirlwell, liked his stuff as well.

Yeah, that’s one serious remix right there. Those drums are amazing! Love the Coil remix on that EP too. So, what inspired you to make the ‘Flaws’ album? Had you any specific approach in mind?

As I have already said, except Inthro, Intherlude and Outhro, all the rest tracks were made without having an album in mind. We just compiled them with Ali (Perc) and gave it a go.

Hi I’m Rachael and I love exploring different thought processes and ranges of emotion through the medium of music. Music has caused me to find people of similar mindsets and build beautiful friendships. There is nothing more enjoyable than dancing and feeling the frequencies flow through your body while getting lost in a cacophony of sound, which drenches the senses so soothingly. I also really enjoy reading, ranting and researching. https://www.facebook.com/Rachbehere http://soundcloud.com/rachbehere
