Violetshaped Remixes (Part One) _ [Violet Poison]

I’ve been eagerly looking out for this record since I heard Kangding Ray mention that he had done a remix for Violet Poison. It certainly doesn’t disappoint, as it’s teamed up with killer reworks from Vatican Shadow and Roly Porter.

Personally, I think that some of the dirtiest and most interesting Techno recently, has come from Shapednoise / Violet Poison, Vatican Shadow and Kangding Ray. To get everyone together like this, on one record is like a desert island wish list come true.

The Vatican Shadow track is a remix of Delusory Parasitosis and the groove is pure driving filth. Dominick Fernow smoothly balances its power of the distorted percussion with a haunting chordal pad; which sparkles and chimes beautifully behind the dirt. Really cool track.

Roly Porter certainly doesn’t hold back with his obliteration of The Lord Won’t Forget. Harsh and ambient, it is sewn with feedback, hiss and occasional fragments of human voice. I love all the tracks on this release, but this one is special. The way the track pulses along without a kick is no less intense than a track with one and is ultimately held together by the masterful timing of new sounds soaring in and out. Crazy fucking music.

Finally, Kangding Ray’s version of The Oven is just the latest reason why you must hear every piece of music this man as ever made. It is obvious now that Mr. Le Tillier enjoys taking Techno and turning it completely on its head. As usual, the way he achieves his groove is mesmerising.

Brilliant release.. and a great label. Can’t wait for part 2!!

Vinyl only & limited to 455 copies.  Out now.

Music production and history are my biggest passions in life. Though people often say that Techno is faceless and should be about the music blah, blah, blah.. I believe in the need to document the people and stories behind it. Techno is a very small world in reality and I think it needs a proper resource. I hope that everyone who is interested in Techno finds this blog accessible in terms of the way that it is written. I personally prefer to hear the artists voice as loud as the music and never enjoy synopsised and pasteurised versions of old conversation; the sort that's peppered with the occasional quote here and there.
